Trineria's 10th anniversary year: stories of partnerships that grew with us.
Some customer relationships are projects. Others become part of how both companies grow. Our partnership with SeaKing — the Finnish leader in cruise ship catering systems — belongs firmly to the second kind, and it has now lasted essentially our whole ten-year history.
Who SeaKing is
SeaKing designs and delivers the kitchens, dining and serving areas of cruise ships, with over 40 years of experience behind it. These are the galleys that feed thousands of passengers a day, built for shipowners and shipyards in Finland, Germany, France, Italy and the United States. It is a demanding niche: a cruise galley is a small industrial plant, packed into a ship, running around the clock, where functionality, safety, energy consumption and life-cycle cost all have to be engineered in from the start.
Where the partnership began
When Trineria started out ten years ago, SeaKing was already a well-established name in its field and already thinking about the next competitive edge: energy. On a cruise ship, propulsion and ventilation are the biggest power consumers, but a galley full of bespoke equipment adds up fast. In an ideal world every device runs only when needed. In a real galley, with everything happening at once, that is nearly impossible to manage by hand.
SeaKing's existing monitoring wasn't real time, and it carried significant licensing fees. Together we built something better: an integrated system for monitoring, controlling and scheduling equipment, from the ship level down to a single device. Devices run when they're needed and rest when they're not, and the savings show up in fuel and energy costs that matter across a vessel's decades-long life.
What SeaKing is today
Today SeaKing Group is a company of over 400 professionals delivering world-class catering solutions and maintaining them throughout their life cycle. Energy efficiency has moved from a differentiator to a requirement in shipbuilding, and the thinking SeaKing applied early — measure, control, schedule — is exactly the direction the entire maritime industry has taken.
What ten years of partnership looks like
The lesson we take from a decade with SeaKing is that good industrial digitalization follows the customer's expertise, not the other way around. SeaKing knows cruise galleys better than anyone; our job has been to turn that knowledge into software and data that make it measurable and controllable. That division of labour has carried the partnership through changing technologies for ten years, and we intend it to carry the next ten.
